Choosing a Double Pushchair Twin

Side-by-Side

They are the most popular type of double pushchair, and generally can seat two children in a row. They tend to be a bit wider than single pushchairs, meaning they may be less nimble on the footpaths and may be a bit difficult to navigate between the kerbs with a car attached. The extra size makes them easier to maneuver through doorways and also more evenly distributed so that it is less burdensome to carry around on your back.

Many models are able to be used as twin prams for sale, and can take a carrycot, or two car seats. Some can even convert into a single mode with a basket alongside (like the Cybex Venus).

One of the most impressive examples of this is the Bugaboo Donkey 5 which, in Twin Mode, allows you to put the rear seat and a carrycot side-by-side. This creates an enclosed twin room and is perfect for newborns. The pram comes with really cool accessories, like the newborn cocoons, which can be put on either facing towards the front or in any direction (for twin-facing prams). It's not as light as some other options, but it's really cleverly thought out.

Cybex is renowned for its nifty pushchairs and the single-to double is no exception. Its clever frame expands widthways to take an additional seat, and you can use it as a twin from birth by incorporating the addition of two infant cocoons (PS59 each) that provide enclosed, lie-flat areas for infants. The large shopping basket that is behind the seat lets it be used in mono mode for a single child. It comes with both front and rear suspensions, so it can handle bumps and uneven surfaces with ease. Tandem

If you're planning to have twins, you need a tandem pushchair that allows children to sit together and be able to see each one another. They are ideal for activities like going to the zoo because the kids can look at all the animals together. These are also great for parents who want to watch both their toddler and their baby simultaneously.

Some tandem pushchairs offer extreme flexibility as they can convert back to single mode. This is especially useful if you're planning to have more than two children (or only your oldest doesn't need a buggy anymore). This means that you won't have an empty pushchair to put away and can be expensive.

The Cybex Venus, for example can be used in double or mono mode. Its frame expands to accommodate an additional seat. This isn't the lightest of pushchairs, but it does come with a large shopping basket that sits behind the front seat in double mode (and behind the seat when it's mono mode). The seats can be set to face each other or one could be placed higher so that it can be able to look over the other and see what they are doing.

Other double tandem pushchairs, like the Joolz Geo 3, are capable of seating one over the other or side by side. The sleek, compact travel stroller frame makes it easier to maneuver through doors and supermarket aisles. Some models can be used on rough terrain, or for a jogging path due to their large rear wheels and four-wheel suspension.

A tandem pushchair can be used to carry two carrycots, or a car and buggy seat. You can save money by creating a travel system at the beginning and not making separate purchases. It's important to keep in mind, however, that tandems can be heavier and longer than single pushchairs, and may feel less stable when in bumping into kerbs or over uneven surfaces. These pushchairs also need to be dismantled in order to fit into cars.
