Few details are known other than wooden mallets are used to strike a boxwood ball that is about 12 inches in circumference toward a predetermined target marked on the ground. These stacks obviously make field kubbs a lot easier to strike down, as multiple kubbs will fall easily when a baton strikes them. It shares a lot in common with the aforementioned games. These early ball-and-mallet games appear to have split into variations, each of which seems to have plausibly been the forerunner of later games. Players also have the option of collaborating with one another. United States and Canada, played with a white cue ball and 15 consecutively numbered coloured balls on a rectangular table with six pockets (one at each corner and one at the midpoints of both longer sides). Some texts state the name of this game was "Pall Mall", others do not name it. Like many games dating back in history, the exact origin of this game is difficult to determine. It was the final of the World Snooker Championship, at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield, England (Sheffield is the Mecca of Snooker, I hope to visit there sometime soon).
